The Belfast based business has one office at Bishop Street, Derry and union members were striking over pay.

“Counter staff from SP Graham outlets across Northern Ireland took strike action on Saturday to demand an end to their poverty pay. This was an undeniably successful strike with most outlets only eventually opening only to remain exceptionally quiet on what should have been the busiest day of the year,” said Unite officer for Sean Graham staff, Davy McMurray.

A spokesperson for Sean Graham bookmakers said any future strike action could result in the closure of some of its betting offices.

“The continuation by Unite to orchestrate a strategy to turn away customers from our doors will potentially result in shop closures and job losses,” said the spokesperson.

“Our pay proposal is the maximum we can offer to our staff in order to ensure we have a sustainable and competitive business as well as protect head office and betting shop jobs.”

It is understood that Unite is planning further action.
