The Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust) and National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) are inviting Rheumatoid and Inflammatory Arthritis patients to come along to an information evening to be held next Wednesday, 21 October 2015 in Lecture Theatre 1, Trust Headquarters, Altnagelvin Hospital, Derry.
The event will run from 6.30pm to 8pm and this is the first patient support group of its kind in the North West.
The Rheumatoid Arthritis NRAS Group will allow patients with Rheumatoid and Inflammatory Arthritis to find out more about their disease, local rheumatology services and the invaluable resources offered from NRAS.
The free event is open to everyone, you do not need to be a patient at Altnagelvin Hospital or a member of NRAS to attend.
Dr Philip Gardiner, Western Trust Consultant Rheumatologist said: “Many people find meeting others living with conditions similar to their own, from their local area to be of great benefit as they know what it is like to live with the condition.
“I would encourage patients and their families to come along to this event to find out what extra support is available to them.
“Patients and their families will also get the opportunity to ask questions of the Rheumatology team at Altnagelvin Hospital.
Following Wednesday night’s event is it hoped that there will be regular NRAS group meetings in the North West for patients and their families in the North West.
This local group will offer mutual support, information and the opportunity to contribute to the development of long term patient care.
Furthermore patients will have regular interaction with healthcare professionals.
