Talented young singer to launch CD
A highly talented young singer-songwriter from Derry will tonight launch her debut CD at an event at The Playhouse on Artillery Street.
15-year-old Hollie Rose, a pupil at Oakgrove Integrated College has penned all three tracks on the record called ‘Wonderland’.
An avid fan of music since she was a small child, Hollie taught herself to play guitar and began writing her own material at the age of 12.
Already it is clear from the songs on the disc-’Wonderland’, ‘Catch Me’ and ‘Song for Kerry’ that this is a young artist full of insight and creativity well beyond her tender years.
Hollie told the ‘Journal’ that her future lies in music and that she intends to study music at university after leaving school.
“What I love most is performing live. I have played at the Riverside Theatre in Coleraine and the Black Box in Belfast in the last year,” she said.
Hollie credits the staff of Oakgrove College greatly for their continual support in her pursuit of a careeer in music. This lead last year to her becoming involved with University of Ulster music lecturer, Dr Linley Hamilton which culiminated in a performance in the Great Hall at Magee. The young musician has also had involvement at the city’s Nerve Centre where she learned about the art of performing and music production.
It was Linley Hamilton however who recognised the depth of Hollie Rose’s talented and set up the recording of ‘Wonderland’ with Paul Hamilton and Colm McClean who tour as musicians with Foy Vance.
‘Wonderland’ will be launched tonight at 7pm at The Playhouse and Hollie Rose will be performing tracks from the CD as well as more of her unique songs. The record will be available for purchase at the venue tonight.
