A Derry hairdresser has scooped the ‘hairdresser of the year’ title at a prestigious awards ceremony in Belfast.

Margaret Johnston, proprieter of ‘Honey’ hair and beauty salon on the Carlisle Road, says she was both shocked and delighted after winning the award at the Ulster Tatler awards on Thursday evening.

“I’m so, so pleased that I won, it’s amazing recognition for the business,” said Margaret, who opened her salon a year and a half ago.

“I was told I was in the final four and asked to attend the ceremony in Belfast but I had no idea I was the winner.

“I’ve been hairdressing for ten years and I’m just really really happy to have gotten such a major award. Tatler is a great magazine and to be able to feature in it is a brilliant platform and a great way to let people know about ‘Honey.’

Margaret will feature in the next edition of Ulster Tatler alongside Derry’s Apprentice Star Leah Totton who took home the award for ‘Celebrity of the Year.’

Speaking on her Facebook page, the reality star who is Alan Sugar’s new business partner said: “Such a good night. So happy that I won!”
