A local teenager with a starring role in new Hollywood blockbuster ‘San Andreas’ has spoken of acting alongside The Rock and other superstars.
Moville’s Art Parkinson also told the Journal about his adventures while making the film, while also confirming he is to take the lead role in a new project alongside A-list actors Matthew McConaughey and Charlize Theron.
Art (13)- who attends Coláiste Chineál Eoghain in Buncrana- shot to fame as Rickon Stark in the first three series of Game of Throne. He has since appeared in hit films including ‘Dracula Untold’, and ‘Shooting For Socrates’.
Speaking about his new role in action thriller San Andreas he told the Journal:
“It was amazing knowing I was going to be filming an action movie, especially when I found out that it was with ‘The Rock’ Dwayne Johnson.
“He is such a massive star and I was really nervous at first about meeting him. When I finally did,he is such a nice down-to-earth guy.
“When they told me we were filming in Australia on the Gold Coast it was really exciting, as I had never been that far away from home. Australia was amazing, we went surfing every day. I stayed in the most amazing tower block on the 35th floor. My whole family went out with me and I got to hold a koala bear and hang out with kangaroos and my brother even stepped on a snake.
“Then we went to San Francisco that’s a really cool place. Most of the movie is filmed in this huge water tank which had an actual real building submerged into it. I did one or two of the stunts myself mostly a body double did the dangerous stuff.
“The role I play is a character called Ollie who is from England and is visiting his brother in San Francisco. He is very resilient and also very smart and quite funny. Working with all the actors was very humbling, these are huge movie stars and they are really great, funny, talented people.”
Art played the youngest of Stark children, whose story is at the centre of the epic Game of Thrones TV series and the series of books on which it is based, collectively known as ‘A Song Of Ice and Fire’.
Art ParkinsonLiving in Donegal is probably the best an actor could wish for! You have the best of both worlds!
However unlike his screen siblings, Rickon departs in Series Three as he is led off to try and find a place of safety by ‘Wilding’ woman Osha after their home at Winterfell is sacked.
It is unclear what the future will hold for Rickon Stark as only five of the planned seven epic novels in George R. R. Martin’s series have been published to date.
Local lad Art revealed that he has now started watching the series.
He told the Journal: “I’ve always been allowed to watch my scenes in Game Of Thrones but I’ve recently watched the first season box set so I’m catching up!
“Rickon has gone off with Osha and we haven’t seen him since Season Three, who knows what adventures they are having!”
Speaking about the future he added: “I have lots in the pipeline, but my lips are sealed. There are a few projects this year which I start filming soon.
“I’m still working on a project with Matthew and Charlize which I can’t really talk about other than I play the lead character Kubo!”
And Art said he also loved coming home to Ireland.
“Living in Donegal is probably the best an actor could wish for! You have the best of both worlds! I do all these crazy things, meet and get to call Hollywood movie stars my friends and then come home, hang out with my family and friends and play gaelic and nobody really talks to me much about my other life, I keep them separate.
“I love acting and want to be an actor all my life but when I’ve finished a movie I can’t wait to get home, there’s no place like home!”
