Ten year jail term for sex abused charges

A 51-year-old man has been jailed for ten years for the “systematic sexual abuse” of members of his family.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also jailed for cruelty to children under sixteen.

In total, the defendant pleaded guilty to 33 charges. They included attempted rape, indecent assault and child cruelty.

The offences were committed between January 1, 1985 and December 1, 2002 against four victims - two girls and two boys.

After the 51-year-old is released from prison he will spend a further two years on probation.

Derry Crown Court Judge Alistair Devlin also ordered the defendant to sign the sex offenders register for an indefinite period and banned him from working with children.

The 51-year-old was also banned from having any unsupervised contact with children and from making contact with any of the injured parties.
