Tesco in Letterkenny no longer accepting Sterling

Tesco Ireland are no longer accepting Sterling in their store in Letterkenny, the Journal can reveal.

The issue was brought to the attention of the Journal earlier this week when Brian Horner tweeted the company and the Letterkenny Chamber asking why the company was not accepting Sterling notes in Letterkenny.

“Why? No signage saying this, only when you go to pay. Why?,” he said.

Tesco Ireland tweeted back with the reply: “Hi Brian, as this branch is one of our 140 stores located in the Republic of Ireland, we do not accept sterling -Kate.”

Brian tweeted back: “Will all Letterkenny stores adopt this approach in the near future?”

In statement released by the Tesco Ireland a spokesperson said: “We ceased our Bureau de Change service on 19th June because our service provider Bank of Ireland has withdrawn this particular activity from its business portfolio.

“From 6th May we proactively notified customers in store advising them about the closure of this service. We apologise of any inconvenience caused.”
