There was growing speculation last night that some big names on the music scene may be on the way for the Peace One Day concert at Ebrington in June.

It’s thought that chart topper Pixie Lott could be on the bill. Other names being mentioned include BRIT award winner Ellie Goulding, indie folk band Noah and the Whale, and Dublin singer/songwriter Imelda May.

There was no official confirmation of the line-up last night ahead of an official announcement at an event in Stormont this morning.

It’s believed a number of other names could yet join the bill for the midsummer’s night gig at the riverfront venue.

Confirmation of the line-up this morning comes just days after ‘trip hop’ pioneers Massive Attack pulled out of the event due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

One local music promoter has described the names being mentioned as “impressive”.

He said: “Pixie Lott has topped the charts on a number of occasions, has won countless awards and would certainly draw a big crowd, particularly among young people.

“Her appearance would be a big coup for the organisers.

“Noah and the Whale, Imelda May and Ellie Goulding are all critically acclaimed names and, all in all, could make it an impressive line-up for June 21.

“While the loss of Massive Attack is disappointing, the likes of Pixie Lott and Ellie Goulding would make for a really good day at Ebrington.”

Hollywood actor Jude Law is one of the driving forces behind the Ebrington concert, which will form part of the finale to the Cultural Olympiad.

The event is produced by Jeremy Gilley, the founder of the Peace One Day movement for a global ceasefire.
