'˜Thoughts of whole of Derry with the family'

Mr Durkan was speaking after the bodies of the five relatives from Derry, including two young children, were recovered from the waters around Buncrana Pier on Sunday night.

Mr Durkan said today: “I am deeply saddened by this terrible tragedy.

“This has come as shocking news, not only to people in Derry, but to families and communities across the country.

“My initial thoughts are for the bereaved families and those who witnessed this dreadful tragedy – to whom I send my deepest sympathies and sincere condolences at this very sad time.

“The entire people of Derry will have them in their thoughts and prayers today.”
