Three bridges walk for Macmillan charity

Mayor Martin Reilly has announced details of a sponsored walk of Derry’s three bridges.

The walk will leave from the Waterfoot Hotel on Saturday, February 22 (11am). All proceeds raised from the event will go to Macmillan Cancer Support, the Mayor’s chosen charity.

This year, the route will go over the Foyle Bridge, down Queens’s Quay, pass over the Peace Bridge and Craigavon Bridge before finishing at the Tourist Information Offices on Foyle Street.

Mayor Reilly is encouraging as many people as possible to join in: “Last year, 200 people took part in the walk to raise an astonishing £3,000 for Foyle Search and Rescue, the chosen charity of Councillor Kevin Campbell during his time as Mayor.

“This year, I would like to encourage more people to participate in the event, not only to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support here in the Foyle area but also to increase awareness of the invaluable work it carries out in providing support to families affected by cancer - a cause I, myself, have been personally affected by.”

Minimum entry fee is £5 per person and sponsorship forms are available by contacting Karen Henderson on Tel: 71365151, on email at or at the Mayor’s dedicated website at
