A Derry pensioner has spoken of her distress after vandals muck balled her Creggan home and tore up her garden.
Josie McLaughlin from Melmore Gardens woke up yesterday morning to find lights pulled out of her garden, holes all over the lawn, muck balls on the wall and an ornate cottage trashed.
“It might only look like a garden,” said Josie, “But to me it is my pride and joy. I’ve been working at it for years. My brothers have been helping me with it since I got out of hospital.”
Josie revealed her garden, which has won a number of awards, was covered in holes where the vandals dug the lights into the lawn.
“They lifted the muck and threw it at the house,” she said. “There was muck on my neighbour’s wall too and it has only been painted.
“I have no words for the people who did this. They are scumbags. I couldn’t believe it when I came out and saw what had been done.
“It costs money to keep this garden going. It takes so much hard work. I can’t believe anyone would do it.”
