Thumbs up for major Culmore development

Colr. Duffy visited the site over recent days with the Culmore Steering Group.

She said: “I very much welcomed the visit by the Culmore Steering Group to see the development of the landfill site there. It will be in community use later this year.”

Colr. Duffy added: “I am appealing to the public and especially the residents of Culmore to get involved in what they would like to see in the development of the site.

“Culmore is an area which is crying out for facilities so its important everyone’s views are taken on board. “

A spokesperson for Derry City and Strabane District Council meanwhile yesterday confirmed that regeneration work at the Culmore Site is progressing well, with plans to open the site to the public in the coming months.

The Council spokeswoman said: “Phase 1 of the Culmore project will complete shortly with the opening of the District Park area with landscaping, car park facilities, pathways and cycle ways.

“The Council will shortly be engaging with the local community in the wider Culmore area with regard to the next stage in the development of the Park to consider the long-term benefits for residents in the surrounding area.”

She added: “The project is one of the key highlights in the ambitious capital development programme for the district led by the new council representing an investment of £7.1million.”
