John O’Dowd has reiterated his position that the A2 Buncrana Road widening will now be considered as part of a new North West Transport Plan for Derry.

Foyle MLA Pádraig Delargy asked the Minister for an update on the scheme at Stormont this week.

Mr. O'Dowd said: “The Member will be aware that the A2 Buncrana Road works were suspended as a result of a decision that was made during the time when the Executive and Assembly were down.

Mr. Delargy told MLAs this was welcome news for people in Derry and Donegal.

He asked what engagement the Department had had with schools and businesses.

Mr. O'Dowd said: “Part of the development of the north-west transport plan will involve discussions with relevant stakeholders. Businesses, schools and the local community are key to that. There will be ongoing discussions with those stakeholders.”
