It’s been claimed cones laid to facilitate grass-cutting on the A6 have been causing delays between Derry and Dungiven for weeks.

Foyle MLA Sinéad McLaughlin raised the reported delays at the Stormont Assembly on Monday.

"The A6 has had cones on it from Dungiven to Drumahoe in Derry for the past three weeks for grass cutting. Is there any way that that can be sped up on what is a main arterial route? The delays that are happening on that main road are shocking,” she said.

Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd said: “I will follow that up with my officials. I am not sure why it is taking that length of time to provide that service in the area: it may be weather-related.”

The major new road upgrade is lined with greenery with over one-and-a-half-million trees planted along the route to date.

The A6 Dungiven to Drumahoe Dualling scheme include 200,000m2 of wildflower seeding over a number of locations.
