Well known in Limavady, Mr. Stewart had battled cancer, but sadly passed away last week.

The father-of-five was among those who started the Glens Community Association 15 years ago, and served as chairman for a period. He was also a keen fundraiser for the cancer charity, Macmillan.

Tina McCloskey, chairperson of Glens Community Association, expressed her sympathies to Lexie’s wife, Jean, and their children, William, David, Wilson, Denise and Mark. She said Lexie was a big part of the Glens Community Association, and the local community in Limavady.

“Lexie was very fair, very kind and a hard worker, especially when it came to the Glens and fundraising for charity,” said Mrs McCloskey.

“He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Personally speaking, he was a great friend to me and a great support over the years. No matter what you wanted or when you asked, it was never too much trouble for Lexie.”

Mr Stewart had fundraised for Macmillan last year, raising hundreds of pounds from a coffee morning. Lexie’s wife, Jean said the family have been overwhelmed by the support they have received in recent days from friends and neighbours across the community. Jean thanked all the medical staff who cared for her husband, including Marie Curie and Foyle Hospice nurses, district nurses and staff at Altnagelvin.
