Tributes paid to Gerry Henderson

Tributes have been paid to one of Derry’s best-known businessmen - Gerry Henderson, of Henderson Music on Bishop Street - who passed away on Saturday.

A post on the firm’s facebook page said: “It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden and untimely passing of Gerry Henderson, Husband, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, and dear Friend. Rest in peace Gerry, we will miss you...”

The Henderson family has been one of the best supporters of musical talent in the city and the news of Gerry’s death shocked people throughout Derry and beyond. Dozens of tributes poured into the facebook page - many of them describing Gerry as “a gentleman”.

Well-known singer, Andrew Monk posted: “What a gentleman he was. So shocked and saddened.Rip.” John Starrett wrote: “Very sad. A true gent and true muso. I bought my yamaha ps40 at Henderson music in 1985! He played it for 2 minutes and sealed the deal. Music has lost one of its foot soldiers.” Deirdre Carroll posted: “So very sorry to hear this sad news. Gerry was a gentleman. Thoughts & prayers with all the family. May he rest in peace.”

Beloved husband of Roisin, his funeral leaves his late home in Killea, tomorrow for Requiem Mass in St. Columba’s Church, Longtower at 11.30am, followed by burial in the City Cemetery.
