The two security alerts in the Waterside area of Derry are now over.

The PSNI have confirmed that they have recovered two viable pipe-bomb type devices; one from Trafalgar Court and another less than a mile away in Jeffrey Avenue.

Area Commander for Derry, Chief Inspector Tony Callaghan, said: “Two viable devices have now been recovered for forensic examination and all cordons have been lifted.

“Residents who were evacuated earlier are now returning home. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their co-operation and understanding.”
