UKIP has confirmed that they will be standing a candidate in Foyle for the Westminster general election in May.
UKIP leader for the North of Ireland, David McNarry MLA, announced that UKIP spokesperson for Foyle, Kyle Thompson, would be their candidate in the up-and-coming election.
Mr. Thompson has been heavily involved in the community for a number of years and most recently stood as the UKIP candidate during the Local Government Elections last year.
“I am delighted to have been selected by my party to contest the Westminster election here in Foyle,” said Mr. Thompson.
“UKIP has very much arrived here in Foyle, and throughout Northern Ireland. UKIP is a fresh party, changing politics all over the UK. I talk to people every day in this area. They are fed up with the same old faces and the same old names promising much, but delivering very little for ordinary hard working people.”
Mr. Thompson added: “UKIP is a positive alternative to the parties that have forgotten who put them where they are. I hope to be a strong voice for Foyle and for this city in Westminster. What we have isn’t working and I truly believe it’s time for change.”
The other confirmed candidates who will be contesting the Westminster general election in Foyle are Maurice Devenney (DUP), Mark Durkan (SDLP), Gearóid Ó hEára (Sinn Fein) and David Hawthorne (Alliance).
The general election will take place on May 7, 2015.
