Ulster Scots learning project launched in north west

Ulster Scots culture in the north west is being explored in a new initiative in Strabane.

The North West Ulster-Scots Trail & Learning Resource Project had its official launch last month and aims to provide an innovative mix of media platforms for all ages and interests to discover the Ulster-Scots story of the wider north west.

“Strabane District Council is fully appreciative of the rich cultural heritage which exists locally, and is delighted to be associated with a project which can lead to a greater awareness of the Ulster Scots legacy in the North West,” Chairman of Strabane District Council Ruairí McHugh said.

“We hope we can build upon initiatives such as these to develop greater understanding and build relationships within society.”

Among the items showcased at the launch at the Alley Arts & Conference Centre was a free-to-download phone app as well as a series of interpretation panels located at local sites which are rich in the Ulster-Scots tradition.
