Unemployment drop in Derry/Strabane

The the most recent labour market survey figures were published by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency on Wednesday.

Despite a clear decrease in the number of people of working age (16-64) claiming unemployment related benefits, the Derry and Strabane council area continues to have the highest level (5.8 per cent) of unemployment out of all 11 super councils in the North.

The latest figures paint a much more positive picture when compared with what the unemployment situation was like this time last year.

The number of people claiming unemployment related benefits in the Derry and Strabane area has decreased by 17.4 per cent (1,181) over the last 12 months.

Be that as it may, Derry and Strabane has the highest percentage of men claiming unemployment related benefits (8.1 per cent) in the North.
