University agree to pay for erection of perimeter fence

Dunvale Park residents have welcomed Ulster University's decision to build a perimeter fence in the area.

Residents have complained for years about people using gaps in the fence as a green light to use the area as shortcut into the Ulster University student village.

Jim Taylor has lived in the Dunvale Park area for several years and said he hoped the new fence would help to solve the shortcut problem.

“I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen people using this place as a shortcut - it’s just not on.

“There are a lot of older people who live nearby so this will be a welcome development for them.

“I think this new fence, if done correctly, should help to solve this problem once and for all and for that I would like to thank Ulster University.”

Sinn Fein Councillor, Mickey Cooper, also welcomed the news.

“This is good news for the residents of Dunvale Park. There have been ongoing issues there for some time with people using gaps in the fence as an access point right on their doorsteps, which brought many problems.

“The University agreed to fund a permanent fence which will hopefully address many of the problems there and give residents an extra sense of security around their homes. I am glad that work has now started,” added Colr. Cooper.
