Work started yesterday on a new public realm scheme in St Columb’s Park, following the appointment of a contractor by Derry City Council.
The project is part of Council’s Parks Development Programme, and Hawthorn Heights is the local company appointed to deliver the £400,000 scheme at the park.
The development will involve a new car park at St Columb’s Park House, enhanced works to pathways throughout the park, as well as the regeneration of the allotments and park furniture.
Members of the public who regularly use the park are advised that over the coming weeks, the improvements may result in some minor disruptions and restricted access to certain areas, as the Parks Development Manager with Derry City Council explained.
“There will be the need to impose some restrictions while the work is being carried out but we shall endeavour to keep disruption to park facilities at a minimum.
“The improvements are the next phase in the park’s Development Programme, and will enhance the current facilities for the public.
“I would ask members of the park to follow any instructions regarding restricted access for the duration of the works.”
Members of the public are advised that car parking off Browning Drive will be restricted to patrons and staff of St Columb’s Park House whilst works are ongoing.
“Works are expected to be completed in late spring this year.
