Vandals force closure of Creggan play park

Creggan residents are angry after a spate of attacks by vandals forced the closure of a local play park.

The incident is the latest at Ballymagowan in Creggan.

Sinn Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell condemned the recent attack.

On other occasions, waste bins have been emptied and their contents scattered around the area.

In the latest incident, rubber safety matting was damaged and coping stones smashed with a hammer.

“Apex [housing association] have now closed the play park on the grounds of health and safety until they get these problems rectified.

“I am appealing to parents to have a conversation with your children around vandalism of the park.

“I will continue to work with Apex to have the park opened ASAP,” concluded Colr. Campbell.
