Vandals smash Derry monument to peace unveiled by Martin Luther King's son

Vandals have smashed a monument to peace unveiled by Martin Luther King's son in the centre of Derry three years ago.

Police are appealing for information following the incident of criminal damage at the Peace Flame monument in the Foyle Street area.

It was reported on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 13 that glass had been cracked on the monument and it is believed that this would have occurred in the previous several days.

Constable Miller said: “I would appeal for anyone with any information about this incident to contact Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 855 of 13/09/16. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
