‘Viable’ bomb at Gleneely

Irish Army experts had to be called in to deal with a suspect device found outside a housein Inishowen yesterday afternoon.

Gardai cordoned off the house at Carnmore in Gleneely after a suspicious device was found at the rear of the dwelling. A farmyard next to the house was also cordoned off.

The local man said; “We don’t really know what has happened but one neighbour has said that something has been left at the back of the house.

“We don’t know what it is but the Gardai have been called and the area is being examined.”

Yesterday evening the Garda Press office in Dublin confirmed that officers in Buncrana had been called to investigate the suspicious device.

“Defence forces EOD carried out a controlled explosion at approximately 3p.m.”

It is understood it was a sustainable device capable of causing injury and damage.

An Army spokesperson said: “All items of an evidential nature have now been handed over to the Gardai to assist them in their investigation.”
