People living in the Foyle Springs area have expressed concern following a recent spate of burglaries in the area.
One resident whose house had been burgled, but who did not want to be named, said the incident left them feeling “violated”.
“When I read about burglaries I never thought it would ever happen to me - it’s an awful feeling, I feel completely violated,” said the resident.
Sinn Fein councillor for the area, Eric McGinley, urged residents to increase their home security to reduce the risk of having their house burgled.
“It appears that the criminals involved are looking in particular for doors and windows which are left open,” said Colr. McGinley.
“Whilst there is no excuse for the actions of those involved in these crimes I would urge residents to take every precaution they can to ensure that these criminals are denied the opportunity to access their properties and steal their belongings. I will continue to make representations to the PSNI to provide increased resources to combat this criminal behaviour.”
Colr. McGinley added: “I would also highlight to residents the home security equipment and advice which is available on request and to contact me if you wish to avail of this service.”
