Disruptions to Vodafone network coverage in Inishowen are due to “upgrade” works, a spokesperson for the telephone company has confirmed.

The Journal has been contacted by a number of Vodafone customers in Inishowen, particularly in the Buncrana, Moville and Clonmany areas who have been experiencing network disruption in recent weeks.

A spokesperson told the Journal yesterday this is occurring as a result of their upgrading of their network in Donegal, “part of a €4 million investment in the region.”

They said they are currently “working our way as quickly as possible across Donegal and the rest of the North West and are aiming to have the county completed by Autumn 2015.”

It is understood that customers in Inishowen will experience “temporary” network disruptions sporadically while the site is being upgraded.

The spokesperson added: “All efforts will be made to keep these disruptions to a minimum and to notify customers in advance where possible.

They said: “Customers will have already begun to experience improvements to voice call quality and data in the areas upgraded and ultimately will have a much improved experience once all upgrades in Donegal county are completed.”

The spokesperson stated that the upgrade would ensure customers have access to 4G across the county which “gives superfast mobile data speeds - data speeds of up to 10 times faster than 3G.”
