‘We must search for a balance’ - Dr Latimer

A balance must be reached between remembering the past and hope for the future, Presbyterian minister Dr David Latimer told a Bloody Sunday commemoration at the weekend.

Dr Latimer made the comment at the annual prayer service and wreath laying at the Bloody Sunday monument on Rossville Street on Sunday morning.

“While we must never forget the past or seek to erase the memory of loved ones who lost their lives as a result of violent conflict, for the sake of our children and grand children we must urgently search for a balance that allows people to recall the past and yet to do it in a way that will not deflect from the ultimate prize of creating a sustainable culture of peace for generations of our families still unborn,” he said.

The event was also attended by the families of those killed on Bloody Sunday and their supporters.
