Winter biting back as Spring temperatures struggle

Spring temperatures are continuing to struggle heading into May, with many awaking this morning to overnight snow showers on higher ground, from Benbradagh and the Sperrins in County Derry to Ard Grange and Sheriff’s Mountain in Derry City, to Slieve Snacht in central Inishowen.

Tonight will see temperatures tumbling again to as low as 1 degrees celsius as showers dwindle overnight.

The Met Office has warned that clear spells are expected to bring a ground frost on some parts, with Saturday also expected to be a chilly day, with showers building through the day and strong winds overnight.

Temperatures will rise slightly over the weekend before falling back again early next week, with an unsettled mixture of heavy showers, gusty westerly winds and brief interludes of sunny spells to continue well into next week.

Met Eireann has said that; “The weather will continue changeable through the middle part of next week with rain or showers at times and temperatures in the low to mid teens in the afternoon.”
