Police in Limavady are investigating the report of a street robbery in the Market Street area on the evening of Wednesday 17th December.

At around 9.30pm, a woman was grabbed by two men wearing hooded tops, as she walked along the street. They demanded money and searched through the woman’s pockets before making off on foot in the direction of Catherine Street. No money was taken and the woman, whilst not physically injured as a result of the incident, was left badly shocked.

Sergeant Ian Hunt said: “ This is an extremely rare type of incident for Limavady Town Centre and our officers are carrying out detailed enquiries to establish the identities of the two men involved. In the lead up to Christmas there has been an increase in the number of officers deployed in Limavady to help keep people safe, but I would still ask members of the public to work along with police, by reporting any suspicious behaviour, to help ensure a peaceful festive season for all.

“I would ask anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information which could assist our enquiries to contact CID in Limavady on 101.”
