Walled City Music Festival launches its fifth season on 19th July with a performance in Great Hall, Magee, by the world’s most celebrated and charismatic piano duo.
Playing their first concert in Derry for many years, Katia and Marielle Labeque bring a tantalizing programme that mixes French impressionism and the exotic (Debussy, Ravel) with American jazz (Gershwin) and contemporary minimalism (Philip Glass).
These high energy performers will provide the perfect upbeat for a week of outstanding music making that also features the brilliant young Russian violin virtuoso Kirill Troussov, NI Opera, the Brodsky String Quartet, Jeffrey Ziegler (cellist of the legendary Kronos Quartet) and two special events that celebrate the many connections between London and Derry. Not to be missed!
Shona McCarthy, Culture Company 2013 Chief Executive, said: “Cathal Breslin has taken the Walled City Music Festival from strength to strength every year and it is no surprise to me that he has raised the bar even higher for the UK City of Culture year. He has put together another incredible programme for 2013, one which will delight the many lovers of classical music in this city.”
