You’re invited to Burt Harvest Thanksgiving Service

Reverend Joe McCormick and the members of Burt Presbyterian Church extend a warm welcome to the wider Burt community to join with them for their Harvest Thanksgiving Service this Sunday, at 7.30pm. There will be special praise items from the choir and soloists, under the direction of organist Mark Smith. The offering will be for the Church Repair Fund and there will be a cup of tea after the service, with time to see the floral decorations inside the church.

A Night at the Races will be held at An Grianan Hotel, Burt, tonight at 8.30pm. Proceeds are in aid of Good and New, Donegal Cancer Patients and their families. Admission is free. All welcome.

A fundraising dance in aid of Finn Harps Football Club will be held in The Plaza, Buncrana, on Friday, October 19. Dancing is from 11.00pm until 1.00am. Admission is 15 euro the music is by Johnny Brady.

Congratulations to the four talented young musicians who will represent Burt GAA in the Donegal final of Scór na nÓg in Glenswilly next month.The club’s ceol uirlise (instrumental group) came first in Inishowen’s Scór na nÓg semi-final, hosted by Muff’s Naomh Padraig on Friday night. It comprised Burt violinist Jack Houston and harpist Niamh Grant, violinist Ryan Doherty and flautist Rosemary Lynch, all from Burnfoot. Rosemary Lynch also won the amhránaiocht aonair (solo singing) competition.

Gerald Callaghan, chairperson of Burt GAA said Scór Dun na nGall was delighted with the success of the Inishowen semi-final of Scór na nÓg. He said: “It was great to see Burt well represented for the first time in a number of years, with Rosemary Lynch an outstanding winner in the solo singing. Her performance indicates she will be a strong contender to represent Donegal in the Ulster competition later in the year. The Burt instrumental group were also worthy winners in their section, making it a double for Burt on 
the night.

There will be a Station Mass in the home of Eamon and Martina O’Donnell, Old Road on Friday, October 26, at 7pm.

The Burt, Inch and Fahan Community Employment project is beginning on November 26. General workers who are required to work an average of 39 hours per fortnight are being sought. The Burt, Inch and Fahan 2013 Calendar is now on sale. All proceeds are in aid of St Aengus’ Church repair Fund. The calendars would make a lovely stocking filler this Christmas.

Harry P Swan’s book ‘Romantic Inishowen’ is just one of the many interesting items, which will go under the hammer, in St Mary’s Hall, Burt, tomorrow at 1pm. The auction will be preceded by a cake sale at 12.30pm.

Also among the lots will be furniture, household items, garden and fitness equipment, agricultural produce and collectables. Viewing will take place from 7.30pm until 9pm tonight and from 11am tomorrow.

The organisers would welcome any unwanted items. These can be brought to St Mary’s Hall on Thursday or contact Roberta on 0749360617 or 0868744335. The guest auctioneer will be Gerald Deehan. All proceeds raised on the day will go to St Mura’s Church of Ireland, Fahan.

The Inishowen Network for Older people is hosting a Hallowe’en Tea Dance this Sunday, October 21, in the Lake of Shadows Hotel, Buncrana. Music is by Hugh P and Maria. A charity night involving live camel racing will take place in the Half Way House, Burnfoot, on Saturday, October 27, at 8.30 pm. It is organised by the Burt GAA Club. All proceeds are going to Fr Sweeney’s Burt Church Repair Fund.

Aileach Football Club is holding an X Factor Competition on Friday, October 26 in the Halfway House, Burnfoot. Contestants are currently being recruited for the competition. Contact 086 3009314 or any committee member for details.

There is a Zumba Class in St Mary’s Hall, Burt, every Thursday, from 6.30pm until 7.30pm. The cost is 5 euro.
