Over 60 talented young musicians, from primary schools across the Western Education and Library Board (WELB) area, recently participated in a three-day ‘Music Summer School’ hosted by the WELB’s Music Service at the Northwest Teachers’ Centre, Strathfoyle, Derry.

The summer school offered a platform for Primary 5-7 pupils to gain access into the world of music making and enabled them to develop their musical talents under the guidance of experienced music service staff.

During their time at the summer school, there were opportunities for each child to participate in a diverse range of musical workshops and a variety of musical activities with string, woodwind, brass, guitar and percussion instruments.

Each day was divided into two sessions, morning and afternoon, and culminated in a captivating concert finale for family and friends at the Play Trail Amphitheatre in Derry on the last day.

Naoimh Simpson, WELB Music Service Area Coordinator for Derry and Limavady, said: “The final concert celebrated the talents of the young people who performed with such enthusiasm and enjoyment. I want to congratulate all performers involved for their commitment to the concert and to all those that aided in the smooth running of the summer school.”
