Foyle Hospice hosted a very special presentation last week for nineteen local children aged 4 – 16 years, who all made teddies as part of the new TribuTed Project, funded by the Acorn Fund.
The project was facilitated by Vicky Patterson who runs her own teddy making business, ‘Memory Bears by Vicky’.
Children and Young Persons’ Facilitator with the Foyle Hospice, Michelle Koksy, said “We were so lucky to have Vicky lead these workshops along with our amazing volunteers, Breege McNutt and Christina Cowley.
“They were so patient with the children and helped them to pick items of clothing that they could use to make the teddy bears.
“They also supervised the children when they were cutting out the shapes from the patterns.”
Speaking at the presentation, Foyle Hospice’s CEO Donall Henderson said, “The beauty of these TribuTeds is that they provide a very personal link to the children’s loved ones. They are a keepsake for the rest of their lives.
“I hope that these lovingly handcrafted bears, with their smiling faces, will bring many hours of happy thoughts and allow these children to feel close to and remember their departed loved ones”.
The Healing Hearts Bereavement Service is offered to all children who are likely to lose or may already have lost a significant adult in their lives, irrespective of the cause of death. Foyle Hospice does not receive any direct funding for its Healing Hearts Bereavement Service and depends on the generosity of the general public and grant funding.
