We must unite against fracking

We the people of the North West in my opinion need to unite with our neighbours in Fermanagh and Leitrim to call on our government to BAN fracking in this country. This is a huge issue and so far the politicians in Tyrone and Derry have been silent. It is important to remember that this is not just an issue for Fermanagh. Fracking is due to take place in 12 counties across the island of Ireland.

There has been much talk by multinational companies such as Tamboran that they will create huge amounts of local employment and critically bring down the price of gas for the people of Ireland. The jobs created will be few. They will be highly technical and go to imported technical experts. The amount of gas that could be extracted from Ireland is so tiny on a global scale that it will have no impact on bringing down the price of gas for us.

By the way, how many of us in the West of Ireland heat our homes or businesses with natural gas? Erm....none! This gas will not belong to the people of Ireland. It will be sold to the highest bidder on the world market and exported out of the country.

The simplest thing you can do to support the campaign against the plans to frack is to sign the online petition. Write to the politicians you elected telling them how you feel, talk to your family and friends about these issues. Not enough of us are aware of these plans. Plans that will impact on every one of us a nation north and south.
