As April dawns on us, some critters are sticking around from last month, while others will be making their first appearances in the game.

Either way, we've listed every creature you can expect to find populating your island in April, as well as tips on how to catch them, and how much you'll be able to get for them if you choose to sell them at Nook's Cranny.

Of course, it's always worth donating any new species you find to Blathers at the museum!

Fishing tips

Before you head out on a fishing trip, you'll of course want to craft yourself a net for the job.

It's also recommended that you craft some fishing bait - although you can still catch fish without it. To do this, wander along the beach until you see a small shadow spouting water.

Dig in this spot with a shovel to unearth a manilla clam, which you can use to craft one batch of fish bait.

Sprinkling the bait in a body of water will force a fish to spawn at that spot, and can attract the rarer fish to you.

Whether you're using bait or not, look out for dark, fish-shaped shadows in the water, and try to cast your line so the float lands just in front of it.

Once a fish is interested, it will likely have a few nibbles before going in for a full bite; it's then when you'll want to press the A button to reel them in.

Sometimes, a fish can bite first time, so it's worth keeping your thumb on A so you can react quickly.

Tips for catching bugs

To catch a bug, you'll need a net, so craft one at a workbench if you haven't already.

Most bugs can be caught simply with a well-time swing of the net, but others will get spooked and fly off if you startle them.

To combat this, you'll need to hold the A button while your net is equipped - this will let you sneak up on any unsuspecting bugs.

Release A at just the right time to swing the net and capture bugs.
