The Ryan McBride Foundation project co-ordinator Martin Doherty describes how their partnership with Ulster University is an integral part of helping young people live more active and healthier lifestyles.
Martin said: “The support from Ulster University has allowed us to do cross-border community camps across Derry and Donegal, so we are able to impact more kids and families in the local area.”
He added: “We are more than just a football camp, we are all-inclusive and, through our professional coaches, we increase social skills and make memories for the kids.
You can see the benefit – kids are healthier, more active, more confident, aware of their mental health and nutrition, which impacts our local communities and is what the Ryan McBride Foundation is all about.
The participants flourished at the camps with Aarati saying she had learnt so much about football and gained confidence. Ryan enjoyed playing his favourite game and Nola was already looking forward to coming back again in the future.

Ulster University is investing in the young, in cross-community and in the people and the city. I’ve been here all my life and it’s great to see that it’s cross-community.
