The N. Ireland and Ulster 10,000 metres track championships should see local runners, Scott Rankin, Catherine Whoriskey and Kyle Doherty feature in the up-front hunt for medals.

Foyle Valley’s Rankin is in sparkling form and could go all the way in the Men’s championship. The Spartans’ Doherty is an emerging talent who could make his mark in this one and his clubmate, Catherine Whoriskey makes her season’s track debut after a serious block of training with a podium place firmly on her mind.

Back to road running and the Strabane-Lifford Half Marathon has reportedly pulled in a very big entry for the 10.30 a.m. start in Strabane on Sunday morning.

The course and the organisation has been tweaked and, weather conditions permitting, this one should be a real cracker with hundreds of local runners set to take on the 13.1 mile cross border challenge.

WILKIES RUN & BUNCRANA 5K NEXT UP

In a busy period for runners, Foyle Valley’s annual Wilkies 5 mile road race is set for Thursday next, May 19th and on Wednesday, May 25th it’s the City of Derry Spartans popular Buncrana 5K.

Wilkies has a 7.30pm start on the usual “out the Line” course and race HQ will be the Long Tower Youth & Community centre.

Scoil Mhuire is the regular Buncrana 5k race HQ and entries for these races will be taken on the day at the respective venues, from 6pm.
