It was a gutsy performance from the Banagher middleweight who hit the canvas twice in the opening round.

He recovered superbly and took the man from Bahamas the distance only to be out-pointed, with the judges scorecards reading 118-108, 117-109, 119-107 in favour of Johnson.

It was hugely brave display from the Co. Derry man on the undercard of Gennady Golovkin’s impressive victory over David Lemieux in the world title unification fight.

O’Kane, who drops to 14-2-1 is due to return home on Monday morning as he takes time out to plot his next move.

However, his impressive performance on the HBO and BoxNation pay-per-view broadcast in New York will have done his career no harm whatsoever.
