CRICKET: Williams guides Eglinton to win

It was a tale of two centuries at The Bleachgreen as Eglinton's Oraine Williams' unbeaten 102 cancelled out Marlo Jardine's 120 as Eglinton easily chased down 291 to beat Ardmore by five wickets, in the Long's Supervalu Premier League.

South African Marlo Jardine top scored with 120 out of An Ardmore total of 291 for 7. The dimunitive Jardine belied his small stature to cut and pull with imperious power, hitting 16 fours in his 123 ball stay.

He dominated a third wicket stand of 137 with Decker Curry (46), with Ciaran Curley blasting 33 to get Ardmore up to what looked a daunting total.

However, the lightning fast outfield and true wicket was to Eglinton’s liking as well, and with Williams marshalling the run chase, they rarely looked in any doubt that they would overhaul it.

Williams’ reached his 100 with the winning boundary, facing just 93 balls in a superb knock. He received excellent support throughout the chase from all the Eglinton batsmen, with Ross Allen (42) and Jamie Millar (32) worthy of special mentions.

While on Saturday in the Bank of Ireland North West Senior Cup, holders Donemana defeated Newbuildings, Brigade seen off Drummond, Bready had a narrow win over Strabane and Coleraine beat Eglinton.

The semi-final draw, which was made live on Highland Radio on Sunday, sees Donemana face old rivals Brigade at the Holm and Coleraine entertain Bready.
