Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness has extended condolences to the family of Derry GAA legend John McChrystal who sadly passed away on Saturday

“I extend my sincere condolences to the McChrystal family and the wider family circle on the sad passing of prominent Derry Gael, John McCrystal. They are in our thoughts and prayers at this time,” said Mr. McGuinness.

“John a founding member of Sean Dolan’s GAC in Derry City was a well-known and respected figure in the GAA across County Derry and throughout Ireland.

“His dedication and commitment to the promotion of Gaelic sport and culture in this city has been immense. Along with his good friends and prominent Gaels, the late Tommy Mellon and Barney McFadden, John ensured not only the survival of gaelic games in the City but an enormous revival which sees growing numbers of young Gaels enjoying their sport in first class facilities today.

“John will live on in the memory of Derry Gaels and his legacy will be the continued development and growth of Gaelic sport and culture in Derry City and County.”
