FIRST DIVISION champions, Oxford United Stars will attempt to upset the odds and progress to the final of the Blue Riband Cup with victory over Premier Division side, Brandywell Harps on Sunday.
Also vying for a place in this season’s cup final are Premier Division outfits Abercorn and Don Bosco’s who meet at St Columb’s Park.
Congratulations to Top of the Hill Celtic who incredibly lifted their third consecutive Premier Division trophy last Sunday - the first team ever to do so since the division was formed over 20 years ago.
Another piece of history was made last Sunday when Jason Blackburn lifted his fifth league title on the trot. In seasons 2007/08 and 2008/09 he won the Premier Division title with Porter’s and in seasons 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12 with Top of the Hill Celtic.
Meanwhile, the Final of the McAlinden Cup will be staged in the Brandywell Stadium at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 29th. At Monday night’s meeting three teams were fined for their non-appearance at games in the past two weeks. Next Monday night the A.G.M will be held at 7.15 p.m.in the A.O.H. Foyle Street.
All teams including any new entrants must attend and pay their entry fees. Any team not represented on the night will not be taking part in the D&D next season.
In the past this rule has been relaxed but this will not be the case this season even if it means the Association being reduced to one division!
All clubs are asked to return their ticket money for the D&D’s 90th anniversary in Pitchers Bar & Restaurant on Monday, April 30th.
Everyone associated with the D&D would like to express their condolences to the family and friends of John McChrystal who sadly passed away last Saturday.
May he rest in peace.
