“I’m delighted to announce the launch of the tournament, which is such a highlight in the city’s sporting calendar,” she declared.

“Brooke Park is currently undergoing a significant redevelopment and will provide a fantastic arena for sporting activities. The football tournament will no doubt bring some excitement back to the Park and it’s a great way to showcase the wonderful facilities currently on site, with more to be revealed very soon.

“I wish all the teams every success and thank the staff in our centres for making this happen.”

The tournament will run over a two week period starting on Monday, July 4th and entries are now being taken in Brooke Park Leisure Centre. The cost of entry is £70 and a substantial cash prize is up for grabs for the victors.

Hailing the return of the event, Paul Tamati, Leisure and Sports Services Manager said: “The Summer Cup will be played on the fantastic 4G pitch in the park. This is sure to add to the pace and atmosphere of the games and we will have a brilliant competition.

“As always we expect a high entry for the competition and I would urge early entry to the event as there is a limit to how many teams can participate. The draw for matches will take place in the week commencing June 27th and matches are played on a 20 minute each way basis with all matches played to a finish.”

Entry forms are now available at Brooke Park reception and are to be returned along with entry fee to secure a place in the competition.
