BUNCRANA PIER TRAGEDY: FAI offer sympathies to Derry City footballer

The FAI has expressed its condolences to Derry City footballer Josh Daniels following Sunday night's tragedy at Buncrana Pier.

The young Derry player lost his mother, sister, his sister’s partner and two nephews when their vehicle went into the sea on Sunday evening. Daniel’s four month old niece, Rioghnach, was rescued by former Finn Harps and Institute striker Davitt Walsh who swam out to the car and the Association also paid tribute to his bravery.

The statement read;

“THE Football Association of Ireland wishes to express its condolences to Derry City footballer Josh Daniels, who lost four family members in tragic circumstances in Buncrana on Sunday evening.

“The thoughts and prayers of the football community are with the Daniels and McGrotty family at this tragic time.

“The support of the Association also goes to former Finn Harps footballer Davitt Walsh and the other members of the public who made attempts to rescue the family members tragically lost in the accident.”
