Everton midfielder, Darron Gibson has refused to comment on his ongoing Republic of Ireland exile, instead stating that he is looking forward to a well earned break over the summer months.
The Hazelbank man was once again a striking omission from Giovanni Trapattoni’s squad for the friendly international double header against England at Wembley tomorrow and on Sunday against Georgia at the Aviva Stadium.
Gibson has reportedly rejected Trapattoni’s overtures to return to the Republic set-up but his refusal to comment on his absence from the squad would suggest he has no intentions of ending his exile over the immediate future.
It’s understood that Gibson’s refusal to accept call-ups for international duty stems from the Euro 2012 tournament where he was not called upon to play at any stage.
If he maintains his stance he could be waiting for a full year as the cost of the Italian’s contract means that the current management team will remain in charge until 2014.
The Everton central midfielder gets married to long-term girlfriend, Danielle Carter on June 22nd so he’s got plenty to keep himself occupied with in the close season.
“It’s always nice to get a break,” he said. It’s been a tough, long season.
“Obviously I’m looking forward to the wedding, it should be great day,” he declared.
