The 24 year-old defender re-signed with the ‘Candy Stripes’ on a one-year deal which will keep him on Foyleside until the end of the 2017 Airtricity Premier League campaign.

Barry’s future was in serious doubt over the weekend with Derry boss, Kenny Shiels claiming a deal was ‘ominous’ as the centre-half had failed to get in touch.

However, after ‘strongly considering’ a lucrative offer from Cork City, the former Sheffield United defender made the decision to return to Derry City and penned a new deal this afternoon.

“I’m happy to get it sorted,” said Barry. “I was strongly considering an offer from Cork, “ he revealed. “But I took my time with it. I know Kenny (Shiels) was panicking with it. It was a tough time and it took a lot of convincing from my family.”

After missing four months of last season due to a hip injury, Barry is looking forward to getting back to action following successful surgery and renewing his partnership with skipper, Ryan McBride.

“I personally can’t wait to get back playing and both parties are happy with the one year deal to be honest.”
