Derry City drawn away to FK Roteriai of Lithuania in UEFA Europa League qualifers

The draw was completed by UEFA's Head of Club competitions at UEFA headquarters in Nyon this afternoon.

While special measures have been introduced given the disruption created by Covid-19 pandemic, and in order to comply with travel restrictions and quarantine measures, some matches will be moved to neutral venues.

However, given Hungary is among the 10 countries in the Republic of Ireland's 'green list', Derry City will travel to Vilnius for the one legged tie on August 27th next.

Of the three possible outcomes from the draw, Declan Devine's side will be pleased to have avoided games against Budapest Honvéd and Lithuanian A Lyga leaders, FK Zalgiris.

Roteria are currently in sixth place in the six team Lithuanian A Lyga. They have previous Europa League experience but have never met an Irish side.

In five Europa League appearances the club has progressed through the first round qualifiers on three occasions, in 2015 when defeating HB Torshavn from the Faroe Islands, in 2017 in a 3-1 aggregate win over St Johnstone and in 2018 when defeating Pavlodar Irtysh from Kazakhstan.

Since 1964, Derry City have faced 20 different teams in European competition from the European Cup to the Europa League but they have never faced a team from Lithuania.
