Dismal Derry struggle at St Pat’s

St Patrick’s Athletic 5, Derry City 2

NEW Derry City signing, Philip Lowry, may well have been scratching his head last night having learned of his new side’s humiliation in Dublin against St. Pat’s.

And for St. Pat’s striker, Christy Fagan, it was a memorable outing, the lone hitman helping himself to a deserved hat-trick in what was a very suspect Derry City defensive display.

Fagan netted his first in the 13th minute before making it 2-0 six minutes later, the visitors gifting their hosts a second goal.

Amazingly it got even worse for the Brandywell club in the 21st minute when they sensationally conceded a third following a set-piece situation, Conan Byrne heading home a corner while unchallenged.

Just after the break, Pat’s made it 4-0 when a Killian Brennan free was headed home by Sean Hoare to end the game as a contest.

Michael Duffy pulled a goal back on the hour but Derry gifted Pat’s another goal on 72 when Ger Doherty hesitated when attempting a clearance before Fagan completed his hat-trick to make it 5-1.

Rory Patterson had the final say when netting Derry’s second consolation strike after Barry McNamee had set him up.
