FAI CUP: Derry City Treble winners - The greatest team the League of Ireland has ever seen!

Where you present at Dalymount Park back in 1989? Derry City claimed their first FAI Cup and, with that success, completed that yet to be equalled “treble” of domestic trophies that season?

As part of our feature for this weekend’s FAI Cup final, we’ve trawled through the “Journal” archives of 25 years go to select these old photographs which, no doubt, will be of interest to all past and present supporters of the “Candy Stripes.”

Managed by Derry man, Jim McLaughin, Derry defeated Cork 1-0 in a replay after the first game had finished scoreless.

City fans made their way to Dublin in their thousands, many taking advantage of a special ‘weekend away’ and when Felix Healy netted the only goal in the replay, the Brandywell Roar reverberated across the northside of Dublin.

The proverbial “sea of red and white” then meandered its way back to the Derry after what continues to be a sensational day in the history of the club.
