DERRY CITY boss, Kenny Shiels has offered to make Patrick McEleney the top earner at the Brandywell club should he agree to re-sign for the 2016 season.
The talented 23 year-old Shantallow man has been involved in negotiations with Derry City this week following the collapse of his proposed move to Peterborough United.

And while Shiels is hoping the playmaker will accept the new terms offered by the club, it’s understood McEleney is currently in advanced talks with Airtricity League champions, Dundalk.
Ex-Derry City boss, Stephen Kenny this week publicly expressed his interest in securing the services of the player for next year following the departure of Richie Towell to Brighton.
And while both clubs will have to agree a compensation fee, believed to be in the region of £20,000, Kenny appears keen on linking up with the player once again.
“We’ll have to see about that,” said Kenny. “There will be compensation involved and that’s something that will have to be addressed, but Patrick is a player I like.”
Dundalk are favourites to land the player’s signature given they can offer Champions League football next season, and providing a fee can be agreed, a deal could be sealed in the next few days.
However, Derry manager, Shiels, who completed the signings of both Shaun Patton and Dean Jarvis yesterday, hasn’t given up hope of keeping McEleney at the club. And he believes the club have made McEleney ‘a really good offer’.
“We’re still waiting on Patrick,” said the Derry boss. “We just have to wait and see what happens.
“The club have made him a really good offer and we’re hopeful that will be enough to keep him.
